One Year Ago Today...

One year ago today I was 10 weeks pregnant. It was also my first appointment with the Doctor. I had already seen the Nurse Practitioner at 6 weeks. He felt my dates might be wrong even though I knew they were right so he decided to do an ultrasound. On this date last year I found out I was having TWO peanuts.

I remember the doctor saying "well I'm glad we did this because there are two in there." I said WHAT!! like four times and my husband said he felt like he was going to faint. In our shock we were happy. It's weird now looking at these pictures now that I know who they are and what they look like. Even though it's hard work most times I'm so glad I had twins.

Kolton was very happy after his nap.

I started to take them on a walk today, but after I got out there is was too windy, so I decided to just take some pictures in the shade. I got several good ones of Karter.

Scars

Sometimes when I see them I cry. My babies have scars, on their feet and hands all as a result of their early birth and the life saving techniques to save them. Sure they could have worse, for instance having a scar do to a life saving surgery, luckily and by the grace of God they did not have to have anything like that, but they are scars none the less put their by lots of pokes by needles. They don't know they are there, they don't even care but when I think about it, it makes me sad. This scar on Kolton's foot is a result of many heel pricks for blood gases. I remember how bad it looked and how sore it looked as well, they were unable to get the amount needed so he had to be poked and re poked.

Karter has four or five scars along his little hands where the IV lines were. I have them as well, where my IV lines where when I went into the hospital in pre-term labor. It funny how one experience can leave more than one kind of scar. For me there is an emotional scar and a physical scar. I hope both fade over time.

7 Months Old

The boys turned 7 months old on the 17th of this month. They are really starting to notice things. They both hold their hands up to both Jimmy and I to be picked up. They will whine when they want something and if you take something away they want they try to hang on to it and began to whine. Both roll over, back to front and front to back. Both are eating solids like champs, although if Karter is too hungry he will throw a fit in the highchair. He can be very impatient. To fix this I give him an ounce or two of formula before I feed him his solids and that does the trick. Neither one is sleeping through the night yet. Kolton will get up once anywhere from 2:00 to 4:00. Karter sometimes is once a night and sometimes twice. They go to bed anywhere from 6:00 to 7:00. Sometimes they take a bottle before they fall asleep and sometimes they don't. If they don't they usually will wake up anywhere from 9:00 to 11:00 for a bottle, or at least Karter does. Then he will wake up again at about 3 or 4. EVERY night Karter wakes up about 4:00 or 5:00 no matter what, he wants his binky and it usually falls out several times before he goes back to sleep.

Kolton can sit by himself for about 20 seconds before he falls over. Karter is still working on it. Both put weight on their legs and like to stand up. They also have began to interact with each other, holding their hands out and smiling and talking. I am really enjoying this age. We are getting just a little more sleep, and for the most part they are happy babies. Karter can get a little cranky and fussy sometimes, but it does not take much to make him smile.

Since the weather has been nice for two days now we have taken walks and they both seem to really enjoy them.

Kolton loves those glasses. He hates the sun in his eyes. I found these glasses that go with an outfit his Nanny got him, he never tried to take them off. Made the walk much more enjoyable for him. Karter needs a pair, I'm going to have to find some for him.

Shiner

Yesterday Karter got his first and hopefully last shiner. It was an accident, really it was, I suppose it happens when you have two of them. Kolton was hungry so I was sitting in the chair feeding him his bottle. Karter was in the floor playing under his little toy bar thingy. He rolled over and his head rested on the hard plastic piece of the toy. He began to fuss so I propped Kolton's bottle with my chin and leaned down to move Karter over and thats when it happened. Kolton turned his head to see what I was doing and the bottle slipped and landed on Karter's eye. Crying ensued, not much though, just about a minuets worth and the saddest look you have ever seen on his face. I felt so bad. Luckily he does not seem to remember it and it does not seem to hurt, just looks bad. Today he is fine and the bruise is almost gone. It's hard work taken care of two of them.

Doggy

Today Kolton and Karter, at different times, noticed the animals. While I was feeding Kolton his green beans, which he loves by the way, he noticed our small black dog Sparky waiting for some food to drop on the floor at the base of his highchair.

He became so interested that he flung himself forward in his highchair and kept looking and looking at him. I picked up Sparky and Kolton wanted to touch him. The dog on the other hand didn't know what to make of it. Poor animals it's only the beginning. While Karter was in the highchair he noticed one of the cats and began staring intensely.
Then next two pictures I took after they took a bath. I had some cuter ones but it showed their little boy parts and I didn't feel like resizing them and I didn't want to post them on the web. These are still cute though.
